You can play with OptiShot on your computer and pair it with your HDTV or projector and discover a new world of golf with it. An OptiShot golf simulator costs such that it makes you easy to buy it with your savings. This system is made of a 14-inch-long by the 10-inch wide platform of artificial turf containing a tee area bounded by a row of infrared sensors on either end. The platform is connected to your PC by 10-feet USB cable which measures your club head speed, face angle and swing path in real time. The OptiShot software lets you practice on a driving range or play one of 11 real life courses with 14 additional courses.

You will enjoy hitting the foam balls than swinging at nothing, as the trajectory and pop of the foam balls help your brain to register whether you have hit a shot squarely or not. If you want to edit your virtual golf bag to reflect the contents of your actual bag, then you can do it by twisting the shaft length, loft, offset and average distances for each club. You can set the game to auto-putt for you within a certain range of the cup.

Great article. You covered the OptiShot very thoroughly. The one other thing I would add is to get something like a 3/4″ sheet of MDF to stand on while you hit. It helps to get your feet level with the sensors to be a bit more realistic. I also found it took me a bit to trust the system was robust and my first swings were quite tentative. After having it for 2 years, I can say it is quite durable.

Thanks for this article, sums up the OptiShot 2 very well.

I’ve been using the OptiShot 2 for a couple of months now and it’s been great for getting some swings in, and playing with the family. It was right in my price range and hard to beat compared to higher end simulators.

The courses are fun to play on, the range has challenges that are fun to play. I’d recommend it to anyone on a budget looking at getting into indoor golf simulators. I got mine through shopindoorgolf.com as a golf simulator package for $799. Having a indoor golf simulator is a game changer for every golfer!

Here’s my take on Optishot 2: It’s durable, but it will break eventually by hitting irons and catch enough fat ones.
It doesn’t work well with drivers or 3-metals. My Taylormade Rocket-Ballz wouldn’t work with it. Something about being able to detect the sole.
With irons, it does good with detecting your face angle, club head speed, and swing path through impact zone. Also, it picks up heel and toe hits.
The graphics are pretty good. I used the driving range mostly and a Mizuno 3-iron. You can adjust parameters like club length and loft.
I have a 9-foot ceiling and just barely clear with driver, I’m 5-10 with shoes on.
Playing the courses is fine, I just don’t find it that realistic, I just used it to swing repeat and stay loose. It helps a little with grooving your swing.
Hooks and slices – it will calculate a pretty accurate ball flight if your club isn’t squared up and your club path is off.
Last, the rubber tee breaks off early on. I just placed my almost golf ball in front of the tee hole. That worked ok, but hitting off the mat all the time will shorten the life of the thing – like about 6-9 months is what I got out of it. I mean, taking a divot is part of the game. This turf don’t fly

Hey, I’m looking to start a sports bar with golf simulators in it. What is the best simulator for my money that doesn’t look awful graphically. Yes I read the article and a lot of good information but I’m not made of money and have gotten to the point to where I can feel that I buy a Protee system and then a projector and build my own computer and buy e6, netting, front screen. Would that be just as good as a system as some of the others?
    Thanks

Awesome article dude, thanks a bunch!!
Have one question… How well does the sensor work when you use irons? And does it wear out the turf quickly when you use your irons?
